Kinetic Analysis Corp. has landed a deal potentially worth $1.5 million from Bloomberg Financial to provide technology that projects the economic impact of adverse weather, hurricanes and other disasters, the company said Monday.

Silver Spring, Md.-based Kinetic has a research and development unit at Orlando's Central Florida Research Park and is also a client company of the University of Central Florida's Business Incubation Center.

Terms of the new contract call for Kinetic Analysis to provide software that will enable Bloomberg subscribers to assess the effect of bad weather and natural disasters on the world financial markets, according to Chuck Watson, the company's founder and chief executive officer.

Watson said the deal will also fuel an expansion of the Kinetic Analysis research staff in Orlando. Further details will become available later. Kinetic's main researcher is Mark Johnson, a statistics professor at UCF.

Kinetic Analysis Corp.'s software system uses global financial data, advanced numerical modeling, statistical analysis and Geographic Information System technology to estimate the potential impact of weather conditions and disasters.
